If you live in cold weather than you may want to think about getting a blanket for your horse. There are many different kinds you can choose from. There are light weight and heavy weight blankets for your horse and a wide selection of colors. For all a around use I would recommend 600 DENIER Ripstop Waterproof Outer Shell with 210 lining and 300 gram poly fill. Shoulder gussets, stainless steel hardware, open front with double buckle. Wither fleece protector and tail cover. Hidden rear leg straps and criss cross surcingles. Coat polishing liner. This turnout blanket is designed to hold up to the light winter conditions while allowing your horse to stay dry and comfortable. This blanket will work very good in most cases but not in very cold weather. In very cold weather you better to keep your horse inside at night and bad storms. I hope this will help you and your horse.

This is a good place to start if you do not know a lot about saddles and the tack you will need to start riding. This set has everything you need to get started and is easy to take care of. Shy Boy
This is another great book by Monty Roberts it tells the story of a wild mustang that Monty trained. In this story it tells how a young man and a wild horse became trusted friends and partners. It tells how a man and a wild horse showed each other a new way to understand and learn from each other. The book tells of long days and nights on the prairie chasing wild horses . Monty learned many things watching wild horses and tells what he learn, what it means when horses interact with each other. Monty learn many of his teaching methods by watching the wild horses and Shy boy. Over the years Monty seen that Shy boy still looked at the wild horses as family and longed to run free. So one day Monty set him free and stood there as Shy Boy ran for the hills. If you want to know how the story ends then I high recommend you read the book! This is a wonderful story about life and love.
Horses Sleep Standing Up

I found a book that will answer a lot of questions about horses and why they do it. The books name is “Why Do Horses Sleep Standing Up?” the author is Marty Becker D.V.M. He has been ask many questions over the years, like why do horses get spooked so easily? or how well do horses see? I have paged thew this book and there are over one hundred question that he answers some good question, some not, but all are fun facts. Some other questions ask of him are why do flies like horses so much?, what is the fastest breed of horse?, are horses prejudiced? This is just a sample of some of the questions there are many more. I find this book to be fun and full of facts like can horses swim? I highly recommend that horse lovers read this book. You may even get a answer to how well do horses hear and smell? I hope you enjoy this book.
Horse Halters
Halters come in many different sizes and colors so make sure that you have the right size.Halters sizes are pony, small horse, arabian, horse, large horse, and extra large horse. Halters are made from leather and nylon both are pretty good. Leather halters will dry out if you do not take care of them. Leather halter should be wipe down with a oil or a leather softener to keep them from cracking. Nylon is good but not has strong as leather, nylon can rip at the joints. Make sure went you buy a halter that is adjustable in both front and back because all horses are a little bit different. The color is up to you because your horse does not care. If you look close at the picture you can see that they is a clip on one side this makes it a lot easier to put on and take off. I hope this has help you a little and I would recommend a halter like the one in the picture.
Horse Care Products
There are many products out there for your horse shampoos, brushes, fly sprays, hoof care and coat shine products. Shampoos are very important they should be strong but gentle one with lanolin in it will keep his or hers skin moist and shining. Most horses love to be brush make sure that the brush is not to soft or to hard. When buying a brush take it and put it across your hand if it hurts it is to hard if it feels real soft it is some were in the middle is better. Fly spray can help a lot try spraying a little on before a ride this will help to keep bugs away while you ride because your horse is going to sweat. When done riding wash your horse off to get rid of the sweat. Hoof care is very important check your horses feet before riding or working him. If you show your horse and you want his or hers hoofs to shine there is a polish that you can get to made them do this it looks great. I hope this has helped you and I recommend that you try some of these product.
Understanding Your Horse
I have found a book that will help you understand your horse a little better. This book called “How to Think like a Horse“ by Cherry Hill is the story of a trainer who found a different way of training horses. In her book she covers different behavior problems of your horse and how to deal with them. Also she tells you why horses do what they do and what they actions means. She shows you in words and pictures how horses react to different situations. This book will tell you why your horse runs away when you walk at him and what you can do about it. Her training methods and understanding of horses is very good. She know went to be gentle and when to be firm, without doing any harm. She talks about looking into a horses eyes and seeing a light that tells you if your horse is willing to learn and trust you. I know this to be true because I have seen it myself. If would like to learn more about your horse and understand your horse better I highly recommend this book!
